Calling JDE Business Services from Third Party Applications

Starting with Tools Release 8.97 JD Edwards introduced a new object type call Business Services. Simply put Business Services are exposed web services that allow for easier interoperability between EnterpriseOne and other third party or custom applications. The following gives a brief example of how the use of Business Services can be used from third party applications.

Efficiency Gain by Warehouse Consolidation

Our client was storing products in seven warehouse facilities with total floor space in excess of 1000,000 square feet. Operating these seven warehouse facilities resulted in additional operating expense, redundant services, and labor inefficiencies. In addition, multiple warehouse facilities complicated our clients cross-selling initiatives of shipping multiple business product lines on the same truck.

Efficiency Optimization by One Truck One Invoice Model

The overall objective of this opportunity was to allow our client to market and sell products to distributors, customers utilizing one sales order, one truck, and one invoice per order. It gives a customer an incentive to order more as the customer can take advantage of price breaks by ordering truckload and in turn sales increase which brings in additional revenue for each legal entity. Our client intended to introduce the capability to service customers utilizing a "One Truck One Invoice" concept. This is a departure from how our client used to interface with their customers, which required separate customer numbers per brand and has separate sales orders, shipment, and invoice.
